Screening and Consultation
We are able to screen children in speech and language skills informally and consult with parents about additional testing and services. If a child has speech services through another entity, such as a school district or early intervention services, we can discuss their current progress and how we can best support existing goals with additional therapy.
Assessments
Currently, we are able to assess in the areas of articulation, oral language and AAC. Once sufficient data has been collected, we make a treatment plan. Treatment Planning is a collaborative process between the SLP, child and family. We are happy to accommodate the inclusion of others, such as school professionals, as desired by the family.
Treatment
Our goal is to provide effective and efficient therapy with the maximum participation of family members. Those that surround a child daily are the best agents for improvement and our treatment plans include family coaching and consultation. One way we ensure skilled coaching is by providing services in a child's home. This not only ensures family involvement, but also encourages better generalization of target skills, as well as improves our understanding of the child's disorder in the context of the family unit.
Why Timely Speech?
The word "timely" is not frequently used, especially in context of speech therapy. However, the timing of services is an important factor in a child's development. Although improvement is NEVER impossible, there exist windows of time when a child is better able to gain and generalize communication skills. Unfortunately, services given through a school, public agency or even clinic are often limited by outside factors such as the workload of the SLP, funding or insurance limits. Thus, children often do not receive the amount of therapy that would be maximally effective. The goal of Timely Speech Therapy, is to help families by providing efficient, effective and fun services for the optimal amount of time (intensity and duration) to gain the best improvement possible, i.e., to be timely.
